
Today we’d like to introduce you to Samantha Gray. Them and their team share their story with us below:
Samantha’s unique voice has been described as soulful, sultry, and powerful. She is also known for her retro style and her high-energy, hip-shaking performances, which really capture her audience. Melding the influences of blues, soul, and rock ‘n’ roll, she combines these influences into her own brand of blues music.
Born and raised in the working-class town of, Ypsilanti, in southeast Michigan, Samantha Gray is a singer, songwriter, performer, and visual artist who began her creative journey at a very early age.
After receiving an art degree from the University of Tennessee, she made her way to Nashville, where she discovered that she was born to sing the blues. She sang backing vocals for jump blues band, Jive Deluxe and fronted former band, The Detroit Specials. Samantha relocated to the Tri-Cities area of Tennessee where she fronted band, Rock-A-Bye Blue and soon after she fronted, The Soul Providers with local guitarist, Jimmie D.
Samantha released her first album, “Bad Girl Now,” in 2010 and her second album, “Live From Lee Theatre,” in 2018. Samantha continues to sing and write blues and classic R&B songs. Currently, she fronts, Samantha Gray Band with Billy Crawford on guitar, Robert McClain on bass, and John Grayson on drums.
Samantha resides in the Tri-Cities area of Tennessee You can find her performing at venues and festivals throughout the Southeast region.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
At times it is smooth, but at times it can be challenging. Some of the struggles at times have been putting a band together and booking shows. Writing songs can also be challenging at times.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am a Blues Singer known for being an energetic performer. I am most proud of getting over my stage fright. My vintage style and energy set me apart from others. I love to engage the audience.
What has been the most important lesson you’ve learned along your journey?
Never burn any bridges, because you might need to cross them again.
